With 50 animals on farm, we’re not the biggest stud in Tasmania, but we have an excellent selection of animals to suit a range of budgets and goals.

Breeding Stock

We are very willing to discuss your plans with you and put together a package that will fit your needs.

We have females for sale who will be of interest to people seeking a low-risk entry to alpaca breeding. These girls have proven themselves as easy breeders and good mothers.

Advanced offspring require superior genetics. Most breeders seek out the best Sire for their needs but many forget the influence of the Dam’s genetic contribution. At Wharncliffe we focus on developing our females just as much as our potential stud males. Each year some of our advanced females are released for sale. These girls have an established history of producing quality cria of show standard. We encourage breeders to consider Wharncliffe, whether international, interstate or next door, for quality black huacaya.

SHOW SUCCESS

Over the years, Wharncliffe animals have been shown Interstate and across Tasmania and have achieved a range of awards including Best Black Huacaya, Best Black Fleece and Supreme Champion. I value the input from AAA-trained Judges who see the big picture and bring an independent assessment of the animals and fleeces presented to them.

For breeders of coloured alpacas, the Best of Colour award is highly sought after in fleece and halter classes.

Two other very important classes are Sire’s Progeny and Dam’s Progeny (Get of Dam) where pairs/trios of offspring of the same sire or the same dam are compared for consistency of outcome. I am pleased to have won these awards at regional shows numerous times. By focussing on using only the best dams matched with a top sire, the quality of Wharncliffe offspring has improved and my current stud stock is producing the ‘peas in a pod’ that the judges are looking for.
